Will Friedwald is an American author as well as jazz and cabaret critic. He has authored nine books and nearly five hundred liner notes for compact discs, for which he has received eight Grammy nominations. He has written for newspapers and magazines include Wall Street Journal, New York Times, New York Sun, The Village Voice, Vanity Fair, BBC Music Magazine, and Oxford American, among other publications.

Collection consists of drafts of Will Friedwald’s book A biographical dictionary of jazz and popular singers. Includes draft notes. A large collection of music recordings were donated along with the papers; they have since been catalogued and removed from the collection. A complete listing of recordings is available in the finding aid.

The collection contains multiple drafts of Friedwald’s book A biographical dictionary of jazz and popular singers. Box one contains the first draft, as well as a “first pass” version. Boxes two and three contain the Copyedited version. Each folder contains one chapter.
