Scope and content

The collection consists of photos, recordings, posters, letters, and publicity material documenting the careers of The Andrews Sisters including 78s, 45s, LPs, CDs, photographs, posters, lobby cards, magazines, and miscellaneous research materials. It also includes to a lesser extent similar materials pertaining to Georgia Gibbs and Rose Murphy.

System of arrangement

This collection is divided into four series:
I) Biographical information: includes books, newspapers, and magazine articles that trace the Andrew Sisters’ lives and careers from before they were discovered to obituaries, plus candid, publicity, and family photographs covering that same time span. Two of the binders relate information specific to Georgia Gibbs and Rose Murphy.
II) Audio and video recordings: recordings in a wide variety of formats. Some of Georgia Gibb’s and Rose Murphy’s commercial records are also included.
III) Print publications: sheet music, programs from live performances or shows featuring the music they popularized, and lyric, music, and news magazines containing their song lyrics or articles about their work. Some of the articles relate to Georgia Gibbs.
IV) Miscellaneous: assorted memorabilia and ephemera, including movie posters, a record cleaner, a beach towel, and other items.
