Collection consists of drafts of Will Friedwald’s book A biographical dictionary of jazz and popular singers. Includes draft notes. A large collection of music recordings were donated along with the papers; they have since been catalogued and removed from the collection. A complete listing of recordings is available in the finding aid.
The collection consists of one copy of a book draft dated July 25, 1946 that was the basis for the Gus Kahn biopic, "I'll See You in My Dreams," released in 1951.
The collection includes two costumes created for Ella Fitzgerald for concert performances. The first, a grey silk evening gown with a black silk and velvet floral overlay, was worn by the singer on stage in the 1960s. The second, mint green silk jumpsuit heavily adorned with rhinestones, faux pearls and fringe on the sleeves and waistline, was worn by the singer on stage in the early 1970s. An inside label reads "Elizabeth Courtney/Costumes Hollywood."
